DEVELOPING HIGH PERFORMING TEAMS

"We have just moved to cross-functional teams.  Roles and responsibilities on the team are still not clear; team members are in their functional silos."

"Our competition has formed a partnership with their key suppliers -how can we do the same?"

"We know teams are great in theory, but how do you make them work in our organization?"

What is Team Building?

A systematic process designed to improve team functioning such as problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution.  EDG consultants assist a team to asses its current status and identify ways the team can enhance overall effectiveness.  EDG consultants assist in identifying obstacles that are in the way of building stronger teams member relationships and help the team create action plans that will allow it to achieve peak performance.

Our goals are to:

Assist in identifying the issues confronting the team, surface any obstacles that are in the way of building strong team member relationships, and help the team create action plans that will allow it to achieve peak performance.

Enable organizations to develop new types of teams and partnerships to meet changing business needs.  Traditional organizations may require new cross-functional teams to lead improvement efforts across organizational boundaries.

Our approach is designed to be thoroughly integrated into an organization's business operations and can be implemented in "real time" while the team is performing its work.

 Developing High Performance Teams

For many organizations, teams and partnerships have become an integral part of their organizational effectiveness strategy.  Different situations require different team strategies. Selecting the right approach to "teaming" is important to achieve the desired level of organizational performance.

Specifically, the goals of  team building are to provide team members with:

  1. Clarification of team mission and vision

  2. Establishment of team members roles and responsibilities

  3. A better understanding of style differences between team members

  4. Faster start up for new teams or teams with new leaders

  5. The resolution of conflict and the elimination of dysfunctional behavior that can stifle creativity and resource team effectiveness.

  6. A better understanding of differences in work styles and preferences

 The Process:

EDG uses a systematic process to assist our clients in building and maintaining effective teams that can adapt to changing organizational demands.

Data Collection

Data is gathered from team members to determine the key obstacles and opportunities to move the team forward.  This enables the focus to be around the "live issues" that a team needs to address.

Designing a Team Development Process

Once the development needs of the team are identified, a custom designed process is created to ensure the team achieves its performance and operating objectives.

Off-site

EDG will conduct a team alignment session.  In addition, team members receive "just in time" skills training and development in team process skills.  This ensures the team can successfully address a situation the next time it is encountered, without the need for an outside facilitator.

Follow Up

EDG will track the team track its progress on a periodic basis to determine progress and make any modifications as needed.
